a full-bodied profession

Teaching is an art.
innate skill,
entertainment.

Teaching is parenting.
listening,
psycho-analyzing.

Teaching is classroom management.
support,
acceptance.

Teaching is to the test.
standards-based,
content-rich.

Teaching is time
22 minute lunch,
45 minute class,
90 minute block,

Teaching is meetings.
department,
faculty,
committee.

Teaching is jargon.
AUP,
IEP,
AYP.

Teaching is interpersonal.
social,
receptive,
available.

Teaching is motivating.
engaging,
stimulating,
inspiring.

Teaching is collaborating.
instructional practice,
lesson design,
attitude.

Teaching is changing.
2.0,
21st Century.

Teaching is change.

Teachers change.

Are you a teacher?

I liked these lines:

That's something to pin up on the wall or the desk.

Thanks for sharing your writing

Begs the question "Are you changing?" I like it.

Of course I'm changing. I've changed every year I've been teaching.

And I keep reminding myself that if I ever find myself back in the position of classroom teacher, I'm sure I'll bear little resemblance to the teacher the occupied room 218 a year and a half ago.
